Imprensa Nacional-Casa da Moeda (INCM) is Portugal’s national mint and official printing office, with a long standing heritage in secure printing, authentication technologies, and government document production.
With origins dating back more than eight centuries, INCM has built extensive expertise in security print and has expanded its international presence through partnerships across Europe and Africa.
As global excise regulations and supply chain security requirements evolved, governments increasingly required more sophisticated authentication and traceability capabilities to support tax stamp programs. International initiatives such as the WHO Framework Convention on Tobacco Control and the EU Tobacco Products Directive introduced stricter standards around product traceability, supply chain visibility, and anti illicit trade measures.
To address these growing demands, INCM partnered with Crane Authentication to combine advanced optical security technologies with digital traceability infrastructure. The partnership focused on strengthening excise tax stamp programs through secure authentication, unique product identification, and integrated supply chain intelligence capable of supporting large scale government programs globally.
By integrating Crane Authentication Insight within INCM’s manufacturing operations, the partnership established a comprehensive solution for secure tax stamp production, traceability, and authentication. Together, INCM and Crane Authentication continue to support global excise programs through enhanced security printing, real time supply chain visibility, and advanced product verification capabilities.
